Fringe Benefits/ #9GoodThings

As if we needed any fringe benefits here, but yeah they exist! And at the top of that list is number one of my 9 Good Things for today, November 7, 2021. Drumroll please…

And the number one good (great) thing about today in Panama iiiiis…..

1) No Daylight Savings Time! πŸ’ƒπŸΌπŸ•ΊπŸ₯‚

I have loathed DST since I was in school, having to catch the bus in the dark or sliding in to ‘home’ base with only an hour of daylight left after homework and chores. Then when my own kids were in school it was worse. Sending them off to school in the dark, dragging them in screaming and kicking because it was still full light and they wanted to play until the sun set.🀦‍♀️
No more losing an hour of sleep or gaining an imaginary fleeting hour, all for no real reason beyond the original idea which actually only benefited retailers. Sighhhhh…..

2) Taking an unexpected nice long hike with a new friend. And she lives in our little community! We went further up the road than I have been before and took a side rode as well. It started sprinkling on the way back but more like a mist that just cooled us off. The views!

The weather was perfect. Sunny but cool and breezy.

3) I live in the mountains! 4700 feet. I have to pinch myself every few days. Or take a hike. 🀭

4) I can always dream about living in one of these houses. 😊

5) Little red was one of a dozen colorful birds who showed up for fresh orange juice.

6) We got this pod of Amaryllis seeds from the lady who sells avocados. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»
(The seed in the background is not one of those)

7) If you love tuna, no words necessary. If not, move along. No words necessary. 😢

8) Trying out some cookie recipes in my little ‘Suzy Homemaker’ gas oven before the holidays are upon us. πŸ˜‹

9) Managing to get two good peeled eggs out of the five fresh ones I boiled. I’m trying all the tricks but it’s the membrane and shell attachment of the fresh eggs that cause the mischief. Any suggestions welcome. Remember, these are uber fresh eggs so tricks for store bought eggs are not effective.

Finally! A few deviled eggs that I have been dreaming of. My needs are small and my excitement mighty. 😜
I hope your day has been filled with exceptionally good things.
And, speaking of time…

One of my faves by the lyrics master.

  1. We live almost at the same elevation. I'm just a wee bit higher at 4.650 ft. I love the little bird that came to visit you. Who knew that peeling fresh eggs would be so problematic!! I'll ask Baby Girl if she's got it figured out, but I don't know if she's boiled her eggs or not. I think they just fry or scramble them. πŸ˜€

    1. I love the mountains, really. That little spotted red bird is one of our favorites. Lee loves the one that is black with red wings. Let me know if she has any gems to share. Thanks! πŸ™‚

  2. Life is certainly good where you are, Cheryl. I’m only jealous of no DST. We get eggs from a farm, but I’m sure they aren’t nearly as fresh. My wife works hard at getting them peeled without too much tear out. Maddie, of course sits waiting for reject. When I worked for a catering company (for the riverboat) we catered a celebration cruise for the Pirates after they won the World Series. I had to peel over 12 dozen hard boiled eggs. I’m sure they weren’t fresh. I rolled them down the side of a deep sink to crack them evenly all around.

Thanks for sharing the pretty views. I hope you have a nice week.

    1. Thanks Dan. We did play ring around the clock last night since at least one of our devices was ‘off’. I was the queen of boiling eggs at home and we used lots of them for just eating, deviled eggs, various salads. And these are so good. From all I read, the key may be in holding some for longer periods of time before boiling. I don’t think I’d enjoy the pressure of peeling 12 dozen eggs. But I never saw myself mixing, rolling, cutting, baking and decorating 14 dozen sugar cookies for a Christmas job either.🀦‍♀️ Maddie would be in heaven around, but she might have to fight hubby for her fair share. πŸ˜‰

  3. What an idyllic setting! I used to take a boiled egg to work every day and I don't remember having any difficulty getting the shell off. I would tell you what I did but I don't remember that part either. Oh my God I'm getting old! But I do love a good boiled egg. Everything looks scrumptious.

    1. Thanks Pam. I loved taking a boiled egg to work. I had the process honed. But these fresh out of the nest eggs are a different story altogether. Happy Monday!

  4. For boiled eggs let the rest ones sit in the fridge for a week. Mark 'em so you know. Then when they are finished plunge them into ice water and let them sit for a while.

    1. Thanks John. I spoke to the man who supplies the eggs today and he says the same thing we’ve found online. The eggs need to be older, like keep them three before attempting to boil the fresh eggs. He also pricks the fat end of the egg before boiling. Gonna try it. Stay tuned…
