You Don’t Know

The Point

Let’s get to the point,
we know the score.
This ship’s run aground
on a crumbling shore.
(Sh)it’s hitting the fan
like never before.

Let’s roll a fat one
and stop the thunder,
ignore the fools
counting their plunder.
We’ll gaze at the sky
as the albatross fly

How high, how high..

In a minute or two
or ten or twenty
we consider a swim
but the sharks are ‘a plenty,
and aware of our plight
they think we won’t fight.

How low, how low
do the dark depths go....

Up or down..
Without wings or buoy,
there must be a way
to salvage the joy
we locked in a chest
like a hidden treasure.

The key, you and me
we now must see
is to never give up
when up is down-
and down, you’ll drown.

We’ll don a disguise
and like bright butterflies
float on...

Let’s roll another
as I try to recall
that short guy we knew
way back in the Fall..
was it 1982?

He had to leave in such a rush-
I think he was sick.
They kept it hush, hush
but he got out of here-quick!

So lost in our reverie
we did not see
the sharks sprouting legs
with claws on their toes..
Isn’t that just the way
evolution goes?

Eureka! I’ve got it!
We jumped from our seats
upsetting the lamps
and anointing our feet
(Such slippery times, these)

“We’re with you!” they cried,
“What is the point?”

(I grinned, looked up,
my cell phone held high)

I’m phoning ET!
We’re blowing this joint!

Footnote: We considered other options; but The USS Enterprise is out for repairs-Scottie broke the transporter, Han Solo died and Skywalker won’t come out of his cave.

Rock on, fellow explorers. This started out as part of Linda Hill’s SoCS prompt which was using the word ‘joint’, but I think I broke all her rules. Still, check out her blog for other posts and to meet some great writers and well, just good people. Meanwhile, enjoy some music...

    1. Your reserved seat is ready to be filled, my dear! ๐Ÿค—

  2. Is there a bar in the lounge of that ship? I'd like the second stool from the right end, but I'm not picky.

    1. And for that noble trait, my friend, you get first pick. We’ll be serving up ice cold Corona with a perfect slice of lime.

  3. Who cares if you broke the rules? This was fun to read!

  6. Nicely done, Cheryl. Adding the song is a great touch too. Hugs.
